Corey Anderson
Corey Anderson is a contemporary portrait painter known for her ability to capture the inner life of subjects through striking portraits. Working primarily in oil paints, she uses a meticulous process of layering thin, transparent glaze over detailed underpaintings. This often begins with a grisaille stage to establish tonal values, resulting in portraits with remarkable depth, luminosity, and realism.
Drawing inspiration from classical masters, Corey incorporates dramatic lighting and a strong emphasis on the unique character of each individual. Her work blends traditional techniques with a modern sensibility, frequently exploring themes of queer identity, resilience, and personal narrative.
Corey has studied under established portrait artists at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. These experiences have helped shape her disciplined technical foundation and refined artistic voice.
Her work has been featured in Artfields, a weeklong juried exhibition in Lake City, South Carolina, that celebrates artists living and working in the American South. In 2024, Corey was selected as one of 30 national finalists in a prestigious juried self-portrait competition.
In addition to her exhibition work, Corey is an accomplished commissioned portrait artist, with pieces held in private collections in both Atlanta and Chicago.
